why living on my own someday will be nice...
So I really need to dye my hair. Desperately. It's been more than two months since I did it last, and I wanted to do it this afternoon but one of my roommates is home. It's not like I shouldn't feel free to do it, I just don't want the smell to bother him (he's making dinner) and the environmental sneer he'll give me for even using the stuff. I would use henna, but I need some coverage here, I am 50% gray! Plus henna is something I've never really used or seen available for purchase before.
I do think about the fact that I am so gung ho for the environment but then I use this vicious chemical concoction just to assuage my own vanity. The only thing I could find that is "all natural" was a company in Rome that makes hair color products with the lowest amount of chemicals. But who knows what the packaging is like.
I suppose since I only dye my hair once every two months or so, it's not the end of the world. But if everyone had that same attitude about everything, it would be...
I just thought about the idea of doing it in my room and then hopping right into the shower. I bet that would be doable.
One of the friends who treats this place like a revolving door is over, and he's used the bathroom twice since I started writing...so I guess it was good that I held off doing it right then...

Henna is "long lasting" and natural and all, but you can't use dye with metallic compounds in it to cover over the henna. That includes anything with "highlight boosters" or "extra shimmer" or whatever the appropriate catchphrase is. Plus it's much harder to remove if you ever want to do a lighter colour or just go back to your normal colour.
My method of choice was to do it in the bathroom with the door shut, leave the window open, and shower immediately after I was finished (hopefully that sentence is never taken out of context...). I'd either chill out in the bathroom with a good book, or hang out in my room for the 25 minutes it needed to "set". I also liked the smell of hair dye, though.
Scintillating.
Beth has that kind of effect on people, I swear, I've seen it in person.
And if you meant the above sarcastically, let me just say that women find no topic more fascinating than their hair (or others, for that matter).
I ended up applying and waiting all in my room. While it set, I took all the polish off my nails and painted my toes. It was a success! And when Eric got home he said it didn't smell bad...Hurrah Garnier Nutrisse!
No, I mean it sarcastically, not Beth's comment either. The post. I just think this topic is not anything anyone should spend more than 5 minutes pondering.
you would if you were a) a woman, and b) had lots and lots of gray hair at an age that is too young for you to have it.
I attempted not to spend too much time detailing the event...so it probably could not have taken too long to read it, I hope.
thanks and come again! maybe I'll have something more interesting to say next time, anonymous.
